TOCFL is a Chinese proficiency test developed in Taiwan for learners whose first language is not Chinese. It has four bands—Novice, A, B and C—and eight certificate levels from Novice 1 to Level 6. This question bank lets you practise Traditional Chinese vocabulary, grammar, gap filling, paragraph completion, reading and Taiwan Mandarin usage by level.

TOCFL uses four bands and eight levels: Novice, A, B and C. Levels 1–6 correspond to CEFR A1–C2. Listening and reading tests for Bands A–C are generally 50 questions and about 60 minutes each. Since 2024, official mock materials have been adjusted to a question-bank format as TOCFL moves toward CAT. Check the official site for current formats and schedules.

  • These are original study questions based on TOCFL’s published level framework, formats and learning resources.
  • Official test questions are not reproduced. Use the official TOCFL site for official mock questions and audio.
  • Lower levels emphasize high-frequency vocabulary, basic grammar and short texts; higher levels emphasize abstract vocabulary, paragraph completion and longer reading.
  • Some listening, image, CAT, speaking and writing skills are adapted to four-choice format, so this does not measure every official skill directly.
  • Items are reviewed when Taiwan Mandarin usage or official formats change.

Which levels are covered?

How do Bands A–C relate to Levels 1–6?

Band A contains Levels 1–2, Band B Levels 3–4 and Band C Levels 5–6. Levels 1–6 align with CEFR A1–C2. Band Novice sits below them with Novice 1 and 2.

Can I practise the listening test?

This site focuses on text-based four-choice items and does not fully reproduce official audio, image questions or CAT. Use it as supplemental practice for vocabulary, grammar, context and reading.

Are the questions in Traditional Chinese?

Yes. Questions and choices primarily use Traditional Chinese to match TOCFL in Taiwan, and may include Taiwan Mandarin vocabulary and usage.
