What this practice dojo offers

Covers both Grade 3 and Grade 2

Switch between grades as you practice; the subject names are shared, so you can compare the same subject across both grades.

The same question formats as the real exam

Grade 3 uses five choices and Grade 2 uses six choices including "none of the above". Grade 2 written questions are graded from the answer you type in.

Two mock exam formats for Grade 2

Practice either the new multiple-choice-only format (100 points, 62 to pass) or the former format with written answers (123 points, 74 to pass).

Scores for each of the six subjects

The mock exam shows your accuracy for each subject so you can see which one is weakest.

Available study modes

  1. Standard practice: Pick a grade, subject and difficulty. The explanation appears as soon as you answer.
  2. Mock exam: Choose from Grade 3 (50 questions, 90 minutes), Grade 2 new format (50 questions, 90 minutes) and Grade 2 former format (55 questions, 90 minutes).
  3. Today's review: Questions you answered incorrectly come back after an interval.
  4. Weak points: Questions with the lowest accuracy come first.
  5. Bookmarks: Redo only the questions you marked.

How to use

  1. 1
Choose the grade you will sit

Grade 3 is the consumer's point of view; Grade 2 adds the point of view of those who serve food. You may sit both.

  2. 2
    Work through subject by subject

Among the six subjects, food labelling, food poisoning and the food market have the most terms to memorise, so start them early.

  3. 3
Nail the terms through the explanations

Check not only why the answer is right but also what term each of the other choices refers to.

  4. 4
    Finish with a mock exam

Finish within 90 minutes and check whether you reach the passing line.

Official website Shokuseikatsu Advisor® (FLA Network Association)

A Grade 1 was added in fiscal 2026 and the Grade 2 and Grade 3 syllabuses were revised. Reports differ on whether the Grade 2 question format changed or still includes written answers, so this site provides both mock exam formats. Always confirm the format, dates and fees for your sitting on the official site.

Frequently asked questions

Are the actual exam questions included?

No. They are original questions written from the syllabus of the official textbook. Past exam papers are not published.

Can I take Grade 2 without taking Grade 3 first?

Yes. There are no eligibility requirements, and you may sit Grade 3 and Grade 2 on the same day.

What is the difference between Grade 3 and Grade 2?

The six subjects are the same, but Grade 3 asks from the consumer's point of view and Grade 2 from that of those who serve food. Grade 3 has five choices, Grade 2 six including "none of the above".

Why are there two Grade 2 mock exams?

The Grade 2 format is said to have changed from fiscal 2026, so the former format (42 multiple-choice plus 13 written) is kept in case your sitting still includes written answers. Check the format of your sitting on the official site.

How do I answer the written questions?

You type the answer and it is graded. Common spelling variants in katakana or the Latin alphabet are registered as alternative answers, so any ordinary way of writing it counts as correct.

Can I study in a language other than Japanese?

The interface supports six languages. Question translations are being added gradually; questions without a translation are shown in Japanese.
