Features of this Hangul Proficiency Test question bank
Practice at the exact level you plan to take
Because you choose a level when applying for the Hangul Proficiency Test, this bank also uses level as the main practice unit. Study only your registered level from Level 5 to Level 1. Adding one level above your target can reveal room for improvement.
Translation is a separate practice category
Japanese-to-Korean and Korean-to-Japanese translation questions are a Hangul Proficiency Test format not used in TOPIK. They are separated from vocabulary and grammar, so you can practice translation on its own.
Mock exams with time limits by level
The written test is 60 minutes for Levels 5 through Pre-2 and 80 minutes for Levels 2 and 1. Use the same timing as the real test, with an unanswered list and review flags to manage your order.
Study data is stored on your device
Accuracy rates and review schedules are stored in your browser's LocalStorage. Answer data is not sent to the server.

The real exam is scored out of 100: 40 for listening and 60 for the written test. The pass mark is 60 for Levels 5–3 and 70 for Pre-2, 2, and 1. Level 3 and above also have minimum section scores: Level 3 requires 12 listening/24 written, Pre-2 requires 12/30, and Levels 2–1 require 16/30. Levels 5–4 fail if listening is not taken. Listening is 30 minutes; the written test is 60 minutes, or 80 minutes for Levels 2–1. Level 1 includes listening/dictation and written responses, and first-stage passers take an interview of about 15 minutes. Check the official site for current fees, dates, and offered levels.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the Hangul Proficiency Test questions for free?
Yes. All included questions are free to practice, with no registration required. You can choose level, category, difficulty, and question count, and use review, weak-point practice, and level-based mock exams.
Which is easier, Level 5 or Level 1?
Level 5 is the easiest and Level 1 is the highest. In this test, smaller numbers mean harder levels. TOPIK is the opposite: Level 1 is easiest and Level 6 is highest, so take care not to confuse the numbering.
Are these official past exam questions?
No. The questions on this site are original study questions created with reference to the Hangul Proficiency Test format and level standards. For actual past questions, use the books published by the association.
How is the Hangul Proficiency Test different from TOPIK?
They differ in organizer and application method. The Hangul Proficiency Test is a Japan-based exam run by the Hangul Proficiency Test Association; you choose the level when applying, and the questions are in Japanese. Japanese–Korean translation questions are also a feature. TOPIK is an international exam run by Korea's National Institute for International Education; your level is determined by your score, and all questions are in Korean.
Does this site include listening or written-response questions?
No. This site contains written four-choice questions only. Use the audio supplied with the association's past-question books for listening, and prepare separately for Level 1 written responses and the second-stage interview.
Does the mock exam show a pass/fail result?
No. Official results combine 40 listening points and 60 written points, and Level 3 and above also require minimum section scores. Because this site covers only the written multiple-choice part, it cannot determine pass/fail. Mock exams show the number correct and accuracy by category.
How are the displayed levels assigned?
They are study estimates based on the vocabulary and grammar standards for each level. Real results depend on the total score and required section scores, so solving Level 2 questions here does not guarantee a Level 2 pass. Including one level above your target can help identify growth areas.
Where is my study history stored?
It is stored in your current browser's LocalStorage. It is not automatically synced to other devices, and deleting browser data also deletes the local history.
